Second-generation immigrants have the unique experience of being brought up in a different country than their parents. Due to the cultural contrasts, you may have different values from your parents as well. Confusion, guilt, and anger are just a few feelings that children of immigrants go through, while trying to balance their inner and outer worlds. Your complex feelings and experiences may create issues related to anxiety, depression, or stress which can be difficult to navigate on our own. However, with therapy you do not have to delve into these challenges alone. It can be daunting to even acknowledge our own concerns, so I’m glad that you have already taken the first step into creating some meaningful change in your life by seeking therapy.
My passion for mental health awareness and psychotherapy started with my own challenges. As a second-generation immigrant myself, it was not until I went to therapy that I fully understood my problems, where they stemmed from, and how I could start coping with these difficulties better. I know what it feels like to be a client and understand the importance of building a strong, authentic therapeutic relationship. As your therapist, I aim to provide you with a safe, supportive space where you can freely express yourself without any judgement.
Everyone is unique, so collaboratively we can create an individualized approach that suits your needs. Along with your expertise on your life, I hope to help you navigate and take control of your mental wellbeing. Through this process of self-exploration, we can identify patterns between your thoughts and behaviours, find healthier alternatives to managing your problems, and rewrite your story. I believe everyone deserves to be heard and understood, and I would be honoured to join you on your own mental health journey as we explore your concerns.
