Searching for the right counsellor isn’t an easy process, but it is a necessary one. You might have already come across many questions online asking if you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or hopeless. These are definitely important questions you should ask yourself. But how often have you been asked what you can do to overcome these difficulties?
Therapy is all about focusing on both your struggles and your strengths. It is also about building a therapeutic relationship between you and your counsellor – something research has shown to be very effective in counselling. Through establishing a safe space, trust, and empathy my goal is to help create this relationship in order to best benefit you in achieving your goals.
When asked about my approach, I like to respond with a quote by the esteemed psychologist, Dr. Carl Rogers – “Each client is their own theory”. In other words, my approach involves tailoring my style of counselling to whatever suits you best. While my focus primarily stems from third wave, evidence-based, Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy), I am careful in recognizing that every individual is their unique own-self with unique preferences. This is why I ensure that my approach works for you.
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, I have been privileged to work with a wide array of individuals and families with issues regarding depression, anxiety, stress, grief, conflicts in relationships, LGBTQ+ issues, among other mental health concerns. Some of us might not even be sure why we are experiencing our struggles. The beauty of clinical counselling is that you don’t need to be entirely sure of what is it that is causing you distress. It is a process of both self-discovery and healing.
So please give me a call or send me a text message so together, we can help you get to where you want to be.
