“We’re all just walking each other home,” as told by Ram Dass. When we go through constant transitions in life, environmentally, physically, or emotionally, we tend to feel far from “home.” The feelings of emptiness and uncertainty can overwhelm us at times like the end of a relationship, or making a major career change. Even so, we don’t often ask someone to walk us through it. Perhaps we need help communicating with a loved one or a colleague. Maybe we find that we have boundaries that are consistently being crossed. Sometimes, it could just be that our own anxieties are in our way.
As a therapist, my primary goal is to provide you with a safe space to consider these thoughts. Together, we collaborate to discover what life looks like after having overcome your current challenges. This process could include identifying your emotions, affirming your unique experience in this country, learning communication skills, and setting better boundaries.
In my own experiences of seeking therapy as a second-generation immigrant, I understand that it can be confusing to know when to ask for help due to the pressures of cultural stigma, and internalized guilt/shame. I honor your decision to take this first step. If the path ahead seems dim, I’d be happy to help walk you home.
