About me

I am a South Asian queer immigrant practicing as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in Oakland, California, USA. As a South Asian born in India, I grew up with a set of values and beliefs about my identity and role in my family and in the larger community I grew up in. Whether these beliefs were around marriage, sexuality, religion or around education, career, family honor, respect for elders, I found myself questioning some of them, while feeling bolstered by others. Some of these roles and values I stand by even today, while others I have thanked for serving me when they did, and let go of.

As a therapist, I support people navigating complex identities and values living in complex societies that they might not have grown up in. I hold clients holistically, witnessing the length, breadth and depth of their experiences within the context of their environments. I provide compassionate and nonjudgemental reflection and gently guide clients to look within. I believe any kind of healing is a practice rather than a destination to arrive at. As long as we are living, we can be working on growing. Not into someone else new with no problems but growing into who we were meant to be – alive and thriving, meeting challenges in our lives with self-assurance and integrity to our lived experience.

My work is based in neuroscience and somatic awareness, with a deep connection to nature as an anchor and teacher. I believe our bodies hold our stories, and the stories of our ancestors. When we listen to what our body tells us, we can unwind and soften our worries to learn to open and bloom to ourselves and the people we love. I work with adults – indivduals, couples, families, and with children. I have extensive experience working in the field of special education with children, parents and educators. I look forward to working with you.
