Hello! I am Maya (she/her), an art therapist working at Art as Therapy, a community-based practice in Milton, Ontario. For the past five years, I have been working with clients of all ages, providing individual and group art therapy within various community settings, including: schools, long-term care centres, remand correctional facilities, group homes, and community centres. At Art as Therapy, I also provide community outreach and art therapy services in North Spirit Lake First Nations. In 2019, I founded the Milton Art Hive, an open studio, supporting community members in fostering connection, creativity, and accessing resources towards increasing their mental wellness.
I incorporate a strength-based, client-centred, neurobiological approach in my practice along with a wide range of materials for free expression. I am continuously amazed at how the process of creativity evokes experiences that come up to the surface to be acknowledged, processed and released. I have witnessed that through creative engagement, we can become more self-aware and feel empowered to cultivate a space for ourselves in which we may feel whole within this chaotic world.
I am interested in supporting clients who find themselves in liminal spaces, dealing with transition, uncertainty and discomfort that comes from change, whether it be in relationships, careers, or loss. I believe art is a tool that ignites our intuition, helping us to gain balance, multiple perspectives, and choices. By tapping into our inner-strengths and creative skills, we can build the confidence and capacity to take control over our circumstances.
