The most common thing I hear from my South Asian clients is that they worked with other therapists and no matter how much they explained, the therapist couldn’t understand because they didn’t share the same culture. Being a first generation American in a South Asian family comes with many challenges:
-difficulty dealing with your emotional problems because this was never viewed as a skill in your upbringing
-the emphasis on building your career through academic success which isn’t always as fulfilling as you were promised it was going to be
-pressure to appease everyone around while your non-South Asian friends only have to worry about making themselves happy
A majority of my clients are South Asians in their 20s and 30s who are successful in many parts of their life but struggle to use those same skills to help them manage their relationships and emotions. I help by helping you develop these life management skills to help you overcome your issues.
I have over a decade of experience as a therapist working with difficulties you might encounter in your daily life including: anxiety, depression, divorce, breakups, racing thoughts, restlessness, lack of motivation, and setting boundaries in important life relationships. I help you identify your needs, confront difficult emotions and offer you real life solutions you can use right away.
