About me

Hello, I’m Insiya. My primary approach to therapy is trauma-informed, intersectional feminist, queer affirmative, existential, and self-compassion based. Taking a systemic lens, I look at how capitalism, sexism, racism, patriarchy, homophobia, and other oppressive systems impact a person’s mental health. As a person and as a therapist, I draw my influences from systems theory, existentialism, mindfulness, and narrative practices. I find my professional belongingness in humanistic and post-modern perspectives.

I have a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Montfort Insitute of Advances Studies, Bangalore, India. I have been working in private practice since October 2021. Additionally, I also have a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Sociology and 9 years of experience working as a content editor in India and Dubai.

I am experienced in working with adults in the areas of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, existential concerns, self-worth, loneliness, self-exploration, relationship distress, attachment wounds, emotional distress, work-life balance, and stress and burnout.

As a person, I’m quite rebellious and a bit of a misfit and I bring this energy into my sessions. Much like my existential predecessors, I too believe that the therapeutic relationship acts as a vehicle for facilitating personal growth and expansion. In my work, I take a non-pathologizing and strengths-based approach. This means that there is an emphasis on the unique abilities through which people survive hardships. I find my purpose in using my knowledge and personhood to connect to my clients in a meaningful and compassionate way.
