About me

Hello! My name is Edwina and I’m a psychologist practicing in Melbourne, Australia at Q Psychology. I was born in Australia and my background is Sri Lankan Tamil. I practice through an intersectional lens, as a woman of colour who identifies as pansexual. Psychologists of colour are not common where I live, and I believe it is so important to be able to talk to someone who has lived experience, especially when it comes to racism, sexism, and experiences of intergenerational trauma due to colonisation.

While I have experience in many different types of therapies, I do not subscribe to one type, as every person has unique challenges that cannot be labeled or shoe-boxed as a specific ‘type’. For me, the most important aspect of therapy is having a good connection and rapport with my clients, and establishing honesty and trust.

I got into the psychological field in order to make a real change in mental health in our communities, as it is one of the most disregarded tenets of health. My research looks at mental health in South Asian men, and factors that impact help-seeking behaviour in this specific community.
