About me

Hello! Thank you for reviewing my page!

I have included some information from my website about my approach below. Please click on it for more details.

I am a professor of couple and family therapy, and like to include cutting edge research as a part of my work with you, as well as using therapy approaches that are specific to you.

You may also see my publications listed on the website. I work with a variety of clients from a variety of issues (see services).

My goal in working with South Asian people, is to give back to my community and also offer a place where they can feel free to work through their struggles in a non judgmental space, in addition to having a cultural understanding from myself, of their background. Often times these are the barriers to South Asians seeking therapy in addition to the stigma. Usually South Asians seek the advise of a trusted elder; my goal is to mimic a relationship that is similar.

I also see myself working with those who are South Asian American- no matter, if they are first, second, or third generation and so on. I feel that I can relate and provide space across generational experiences.

From my website:

My approach to therapy when working with you is that they are the expert of your own life because you have lived your life longer than I have known you; you have made choices in your life with the information that you have had and the tools you obtained through your life. I believe that you have already made meaning of your situation through prior experiences. After creating a therapeutic connection, I see my role as being a flashlight in a dark cave (like a trusted guide), collaborating with you, and shedding light on different experiences, in hopes of co-creating new meaning with you to expand your life’s choices and possibilities. I believe in a client centered, strength based approach with those in the room.

Please go ahead and reach out via my phone number or contact page.

I hope to hear from you!

***Please note,  I can only accept you as a client, as long as you are physically located in California; my license doesn’t allow me to operate outside of CA. ***
