About me

Thank you for visiting my profile.

It takes courage to seek out help and reach out for support when we are going through difficulties in our life. It is a huge step when you decide to consider therapy and start the search to find the right counsellor for you.

My name is Amara Aslam, I am a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice and guidelines for online Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Finding the right counsellor for you is an essential part of embarking on a journey into counselling. For this reason I offer a free 30 minute initial telephone consultation so that we can explore your needs and wants from counselling as well as checking we are the right fit for each other.

During the consultation we will discuss how you may create a safe and confidential space for online counselling at home as we find ourselves at home with our families due to the pandemic (coronavirus). I encourage questions in relation to online counselling via Zoom as I recognise this may be something new and may cause you anxiety and uncertainty.

The aim of counselling is to facilitate a safe, confidential and accepting space that invites you to explore whatever difficulties and experiences that are affecting your happiness and sense of self. Sometimes these difficulties are part of our present, rooted in our past, part of cultural heritage and/or family history.

I find the Person-Centred approach fits my own philosophy as it has at its very core, an unshakable belief that all people are good and change can occur. Person-Centred counselling believes that every person can, and will, become a more fully functioning person if given the correct conditions.

Empathically, without judgement and at your pace, I will walk alongside you as you share, explore and gain insight into your world from your perspective. I will listen to hear the story behind the words and reflect these back to you to empower you. I aim to offer these conditions on our journey together where new insight, understanding and acceptance may arise.

My background and experience is working with victims and survivors of domestic and honour based abuse from diverse communities, cultural backgrounds, religion and sexual orientation. This has given me an in depth understanding of how these factors can influence and impact our way of life. I can and will utilise my language skills and ‘mother tongue to communicate with you if this is your preference.

I offer both short term and long-term counselling over Zoom, depending upon your needs. I am only able to take on clients that are living in the United Kingdom.

Full Enhanced DBS Checks for working with vulnerable Adults.

Please reach out if you have any questions or queries.
